Dignifying Design lecture at CUDC

Marika Shioiri-Clark, principal of SOSHL Studio, will speak at the CUDC on “Dignifying Design” as part of AIA Cleveland’s 2013 Emerging Practitioner Lecture Series. Based in Cleveland, SOSHL Studio is dedicated to creating social impact through architecture and design. In response to Denise Scott Brown’s comments on her exclusion from the Pritzker Prize, Marika recently co-authored a CNN.com article on the continuing discrimination of women in architecture.

The Emerging Practitioner Lecture Series is organized by AIA Cleveland’s Associates Committee in partnership with Kent State University’s Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative. Events are free and open to the public.

Great Lakes Symposium sponsored by the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association

The Great Lakes Symposium will cover timely legal issues impacting the Great Lakes. Stakeholders will discuss topics ranging from the regulation of phosphorous discharged into the Great Lakes to the development of wind turbines and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

The Symposium's panel discussion will feature Chris Korleski (EPA Great Lakes National Program Office), Brian Cook (Ohio EPA), and Joel Brammeier (Alliance for the Great Lakes).

Great Lakes Action Plan public forum

Great Lakes advocates will have an opportunity to shape the nation’s Great Lakes restoration agenda at a public forum in Cleveland on June 5. The EPA will be revising its five-year Great Lakes Action Plan, which serves as the blueprint for federal restoration efforts—including funding priorities. It’s important for the plan to be as strong as it can be to ensure that restoration efforts are successful. The EPA is holding a series of public forums to solicit feedback from Great Lakes stakeholders.
